The EXO V2 module: A major step forward in Office 365 data imports
Microsoft has announced the availability of the new PowerShell Exchange Online cmdlets. These commands are used to retrieve data in bulk from Office 365, for example the list of Exchange recipients and their attributes, and their size. According to tests carried out for several months by many beta testers around the world, these commands execute 4 to 8 times faster than their previous versions and also appear to be more reliable.
The Exchange Online PowerShell V2 module (or EXO V2 module) has already been the subject of a previous article since it is a prerequisite for modern authentication with Office 365. This is to say the major importance that this new component is brought to take in the medium term for the users of Promodag Reports.
To install it, just start Windows PowerShell (i.e. the 64-bit version) as administrator and enter this command:
Install-Module -Name ExchangeOnlineManagement
Then validate the installation by answering with Y (Yes).
We have therefore been interested in this topic for several months and have started to introduce some of these optimized commands in the code of the next version of Promodag Reports, starting with Get-EXOMailboxStatistics and Get-EXOMailboxFolderStatistics to retrieve the size of Office 365 mailboxes and their folders. Commands to speed up the import of the Office 365 directory will follow in the near future.
Promodag Reports must be launched in 64-bit mode to be able to use the EXO V2 management module.
If you manage an Exchange Online environment of more than 5,000 mailboxes and wish to benefit from the increased performance of these new PowerShell EXO V2 commands, do not hesitate to use our contact form and we will send you the beta version on which we are currently working.
