SQL database: The transaction log for database ''xxx'' is full

The error message ‘The transaction log for database xxx is full’ is not generated by Promodag Reports, but by Microsoft SQL Server.

It is self-explanatory and actually means that the transaction log for the Promodag database has run out of space. Database size and transaction log growth are not manageable by Promodag Reports, but by tools provided with Microsoft SQL Server (SQL Enterprise Manager, SQL Server Management Studio).

Microsoft provide some useful explanations and solutions to avoid this situation in their Knowledge Base: 

• Troubleshoot a Full Transaction Log (SQL Server Error 9002)
• Manage the Size of the Transaction Log File

We recommend to apply the 'Simple' recovery model to the database. In this case, log truncation occurs automatically after a checkpoint. So this recovery model automatically reclaims log space to keep space requirements small, essentially eliminating the need to monitor it.
